Background: Holden is saying how your forced to say "nice to bb have met you" even if your not glad.
Symbolism: Saying "glad to've met you" to Holden shows how society expects us and kn a way even forces us to say thkbgs we don't really mean. Its impolite to say things we dont mean but rude as well to meet someone and not say it.
Motif: Yes its a motif because we constantly say it because we constantly meet people.

Theme: This quote addresses how society isnt always right and how holden even with his sarcasim, he is correct and has a different way at looking at societys rules.
Life Connection: In life many say things without mean it like this for example. Its questionable whether to say it or not and whether it is or isn't polite in the eye of society.
